Notes for Cary Smith
Cary Smith was the probably builder of "Deer Chase", a lovely home in Middlesex County, Virginia. In 1969 the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation examined the house and dated it circa 1740. The house was built on property purchased by Osward Cary in 1685. On the property stands a schoolhouse which was in use at least as early as 1772 and as late as 1868. It was known as "Deer Chase Academy". Deer Chase is a Virginia Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. (Historic Buildings in Middlesex Co. All sources of data are documented on the “Person Sheet” for each individual. My early data often came from less-than-reliable sources (e.g., “Sarah’s genealogy pages”). If the only sources for a person is something like that or worse there is no listed source for data, please take the information as only a suggestion and not a fact.
