Notes for Ivar Gunnarson Ween
The Ween family name is from Veen, a small farm area in-land from Egersund on the west coats of Norway (the county of Bjerkereim). There are several Veen families/ farms there, but only two left. Our part of the family changed their name to Ween when the left for Stavanger to start up trade. A family name that started with simple "V" was not deemed appropriat for a trades man. In norwegian W and V is pronounced the same way, more like the english V pronounciation.3081
