Notes for Ludwig Friederich Sturm
Albert Sturm’s Social Security application identifies his father as Ludwig Friedrich Sturm.

According to an LDS record, his name was Louie Sturm (record also has his birth one year off but that’s not so bad I suppose).3266 Albert Junior Sturm recalls that Ludwig moved to Portland after the divorce with Frida and died there. Oregon death records show a Ludwig Sturm who lived in Multnomah County in the 1930 census and died in Portland on December 24, 1931 (death certificate 3464). Portland, Multnomah County, OR Census records from 1920 and 1930 give strong evidence that this is the correct Ludwig Sturm.

Given life sentence in Folsom Prison for misconduct with his daughter (or step-daughter—two articles call her his step-daughter, although it is clear that the child in question was Ona Sturm).3267,1372,1370

Sacramento City Directory for 19331379 lists:

Sturm Freda (wid) Geo h1905 16th
- Minnie (wid Jos) h2003 X

I interpret this to say that Frida was a widow of George Schepp in 1933 but listed with her first married name of Sturm—which is odd.

A Ludwig Sturm is listed in the Baden, Germany Emigration Index from 1866-1911. Since this is where Frida was born, I suspect that it is indeed the correct Ludwig Sturm. The record (according to Ancestry.com) says:

Sturm, Ludwig Friedr from Wittlingen, Loerrach, Baden, Germany emigrated in 1889 with three others.

California Death Records show a Ludwig J Sturm born 5/23/1855 who died 3/21/1940 in San Joaquin County. Ludwig J Sturm is a different person and as far as I know, not related to Ludwig Friedrich Sturm.

All sources of data are documented on the “Person Sheet” for each individual. My early data often came from less-than-reliable sources (e.g., “Sarah’s genealogy pages”). If the only sources for a person is something like that or worse there is no listed source for data, please take the information as only a suggestion and not a fact.
