James Jackson Flanagan got mad when a man in Minden with a similar
name got his tax statement and read it he went to the courthouse
at the county seat and changed his name to Fleniken. However a
daughter-in-law Ola Mae says in a letter that Fleniken was the
original family name and Nathan Bradley Flanagan changed to Flanagan
and influenced his father to change also.
He and his sister Julia married Robert and Martha Thornton who were brother and
sister making their children double cousins.
