Notes for Grover Cleveland Houston Jr
G. C. as he was known by those who knew him well, came to the Farwell-Texico area as a boy of two. He resided in this area all his life with the exception of the time spent in a C.C. Camp during the depression. He worked a a local bread company until it closed, then as a meat cutter at Swift's until it went out of business, at which time he retired. He was married first to Ina Mae, and after her death in 1951 during childbirth, he married second, Millie Jo who was his wife at the time of his death. During his younger years he had a palamino horse which would follow him everywhere, even up steps. This was a very well trained horse and all the small kids wanted to ride. What became of the horse when he and Ina married and moved to Clovis I have no idea, when I would spend the weekend and sometimes a whole week when they would let me with them when they lived on Grand Street, next to
the Reed brothers, the horse was not there or mentioned. During the later years of his mother's life she lived in a small house next to his home, which he built so as to be able to look after her. She was
living there at the time of her death sometime during the 1960's. In the memorial passed out at his services it showed his date of birth as 15 August 1917 however on the marriage application it shows the date I have.
