Thomas Edmondson was an early resident of Rappahanock
Co., Virginia. In 1667 he obtained a grant for 220 acres to the
south side of the river. He added 600 acres in 1687. Records of
Rappahanock and Essex Counties refer to him as "Mr.", a title
of respect used sparingly in the 17th century. He was a member
of the House of Burgesses in the General Assembly of 1696-7
and in the sessions of the Assembly of 1700-1702. In 1702 he
was one of the justices of Essex and sheriff in 1703. After his
death in 1715, an inventory of his estate included 87 books, of
which seven were Bibles.
