John Pomfret (Pomfrett) appears in the 1782 Taxes of King William County. He was taxed for having 275 acres. By 1 June 1787, he had moved to Granville County, North Carolina as on that date there is an entry in the Hanvover County Deed Book, p. 366-367, "I, John Pomfrett, of Granvil Co., State of North Carolinia, do appoint Christopher Tompkins of King William Co., State of Va., my lawfull attorney." The witnesses were Ambrose Edwards and John Blackwell. It was proved 3 Dec 1789 by the oath of Abrose Edwards and recorded.613
