Notes for John Wortham
John wrote his will January 15, 1757, in Middlesex County. He ordered that his whole estate, real and personal, be kept together under the care of his executor until the debts were repaid. He ordered that all his children be brought up religiously "at expense of my estate." His wife was to receive all remaining assets until her death or remarriage at which time the estate was to be divided equally between the "seven children: James, Samuel, Judith, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann and Lucy." The executors were wife Judith, son James, and Machen Fearn. The witnesses were Richard Daniel (first cousin, son of aunt Elizabeth Wortham) and and Peter Clark. The two youngest children of John were not mentioned in his will: Nancy and Charles Machen. Nancy may have died young, but Charles Machen is believed to have survived to adulthood, going by the first name of Machen. Perhaps we have him confused with another Wortham. Further investigation is indicated.
