Notes for Leonard Brown
Here is his will:4208
In the name of God Amen! I Leonard Brown of the County of Sumner and State of Tennessee knowing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death and being of sound mind and memory (blessed be God for the same) do make and publish this my last will and Testament in manner and form following (to wit) first: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Eleanor Dorris the sum of Twenty Three dollars. Secondly: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Crickman the sum of Thirty eight dollars and twenty five cents. Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto the heirs of my son William Brown dec'd one dollar to be equally divided amongst them Fourthly: I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Brown the sum of twelve dollars and seventy five cents. Fifthly: I give and bequeath unto my son Robert Brown fifty eight dollars eighty one and one fourth cents, it being the part which I intended for my daughter Susanna Melton, but seeing she and her husband John Milton have sold their interest in my estate after my decease to my said son Robert Brown refferance being had to an agreement entered into between them will more full show, which is dated the 2nd day of August 1824. Sixthly: I give and bequeath unto my son Robert Brown, the further sum of eighteen dollars and fifty which is the part I intended for my son Soloman Brown but seeing he hath sold the same to my said son Robert Brown after my decease reference being had to an Indenture between them will more fully show which bears date the 16th day of January 1824. Seventhly, I give and bequeath unto my said son Robert Brown the sum of seventeen dollars twelve and one half cents which is his proportional part with other children. Eightly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sally Asken the sum of twenty nine dollars sixty two and one half cents. Ninthly, I give and bequeath unto my son Leonard Brown the sum of seventeen dollars and seventy five cents. Tenthly, I give and bequeath unto my son Robert Brown the sum of nineteen dollars sixty two and one half cents, It being a part of my estate which I intended for my Granddaughter Polly Ausbroox, but seeing she hath sold the same to my son Robert Brown after my decease reference being had to an agreement between them will more fully show -- the before named sums numbered make all my children equal _____ out of my estate / Eleventhly: My will and desire in that all my negroes be sold and all my property real and personal after my decease and the before mentioned sums paid out of it as above specified by my lawful executors after they sell and collect (if my estate should amount to as much) to heirs above specified then the balance (if any) of my estate to be equally divided among my children all except my daughter Susanna Milton and my son Soloman Brown's parts of my said estate to go to my son Robert Brown as they have sold the same to him by Indenture as before specified. And Twelfthly I appoint Robert Brown and William Dorris my Executors of this my last will and Testament and I hereby revoke all former wills by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal the Eighth day of August in the year of Our Lord, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty Eight

The last will and Testament of Leonard Brown was exhibited in open court for probate and proved agreeable to Law by the oath of John Mattox and Samuel Cochran Jr subscribing witnesses there to and thereupon the Executors there in named appeared in Court and qualified as ____ by taking the oath prescribed by law and entered into bond to the Governor in the sum of Six Thousand dollars with Josiah Walton and Samuel Cochran Jr. their securities conditioned as the law directs.
