Notes for Della Violeta Hemme
Della's father, Walter August Hemme, was having colon surgery to restore his colostomy to natural function again. He had cancer of the Colon. He was at the White Memorial Hospital so was not present for the wedding. Alma came back to Chowchilla from the White for the wedding. Leeta and Thelma, her sisters, were the bridesmaids and 2 service men from the Merced Air Base (later to become Castle Air Base) were the male attendants. Fred was in the Army air corps. Fred was visiting different churches in the area while stationed in Merced and was in the Chowchilla Church on a Sabbath when Della happened to be home from teaching in Fresno. Fred was carrying a Bible which put him up a step or two in Della's mind. He was seated with Lloyd Leer in the row ahead of Della in Sabbath School. Over the next few weeks, they met on several occasions in Sabbath School and one week, Della asked him if he would like to come for Sabbath Dinner. He said that he had already been invited but that supper was coming. That was the beginning of a lifelong relationship.

They first met in December of 1942 and were married in August of 1943.
The actual courtship was about 3 months.942

Here is her obituary from the Sacramento Bee:1001

HABENICHT, Della V. Hemme
Della passed away on March 22, 2007, at the age of 91. Born in Chowchilla, Calif., in 1915, she has lived in the same home in Carmichael since the late '50s, which was built by her husband of 48 years, Fred, who preceded her in death in 1991. She had been an active member at Carmichael Seventh-day Adventist Church since they joined in 1952. Brought up from the humble beginnings of central California farm life, she became a beloved educator, and led an active and generous life, dedicated to her community, her church, and her family, sisters Leeta and Thelma and brother Earl. She is survived by four children, Delfred Krussow, Hilda Blanchard, Arla Clapp, and Fred Habenicht; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Friends and family are invited to attend services on Tuesday, March 27, at 11:00 AM at Carmichael Seventh-day Adventist Church Youth Chapel, 4600 Winding Way, in Sacramento.

All sources of data are documented on the “Person Sheet” for each individual. My early data often came from less-than-reliable sources (e.g., “Sarah’s genealogy pages”). If the only sources for a person is something like that or worse there is no listed source for data, please take the information as only a suggestion and not a fact.
