Notes for Kirsten Ween
She was born Kirsten and she used Christine after migrating to the US. According to Hulda Christiansen she came to America and worked with family in the midwest [Mathias Severin “Sam” Matson]. She met and became friends with a sister of Fred Christiansen (Karoline [Lena]) and when Lena asked her if she wanted to go to San Francisco with her she said, “Why not?” And thus she arrived in San Francisco and met Fred Christiansen.

Her obituary reads:

Christiansen - In Modesto, January 13, 1983, CHRISTINE CHRISTIANSEN, Beloved wife of the late Fred Christiansen; mother of Carl Christiansen, Arne Christiansen, James Christiansen, Hulda Christiansen and Thelma Couchman all of Modesto and Lillian Eaton of Yucaipa; also survived by 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews in Norway. A native of Norway, aged 95 years. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, 11:00 A.M. at FRANKLIN & DOWNS-COLONIAL CHAPEL, 12th & G Sts. Committal, Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be at the chapel Saturday (today), 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and Sunday, 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Friends who wish may make contributions to the Turlock Community Hospice, c/o Emmanuel Hospital, 825 Delbon Rd., Turlock, CA 95380.

Kirsten moved to Egersund from Sandnes when she was six, after her father died. She first took care of the Friestad kids, then, at 14, went to work at Jensen's store. She wanted to go to Kristiansand to learn how to be a telephone operator, but her mother didn't think that was a proper job for a young lady and wouldn't allow her to leave home. Kirsten decided to move to America instead.

Kirsten arrived in Ellis Island on the Caronia on 3 May 1907 from Liverpool (Manifest Line Number: 0019) and took the train to Chicago, wearing a white ribbon so her Midbrød cousin [Mathias Severin “Sam” Matson] would recognize her at the train station. She worked for this cousin, taking care of his two children, Myrtle and Alice (who later moved to Florida). When she could stand those children no longer, she took another job, traveling with her boss' family to Boston, working in his laundry room on Beacon Hill and also on Martha's Vineyard. Then she worked for another family in Evanston, IL, for $1/week, where she met Lena Christiansen, through whom she met Frederik.

All sources of data are documented on the “Person Sheet” for each individual. My early data often came from less-than-reliable sources (e.g., “Sarah’s genealogy pages”). If the only sources for a person is something like that or worse there is no listed source for data, please take the information as only a suggestion and not a fact.
