Mable Larson Webb suffered a miscarriage less than nine months before Verda was born (meaning that Verda was originally a twin).17

Verda nearly finished nurses training at St. Helena Sanitarium when she married Bill Lyons. When the school authorities heard of the marriage, she was forced to leave school and never finished her training.11
