His birth certificate names him William Edna Webb.
295 He was a World War II veteran with the US Navy, 19th Fleet. An avid softball player who was inducted in to the Bradkley County Sports Hall of Fame in February, 1996. As with the other Webb men, his favorite position was catcher.

William E. Webb
William E. "Willie" Webb, 72, of Cleveland passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in a hospital in Texarkana, Texas, while working on a project for F.E.M.A. there.
He was a T.V.A. retiree and worked with the Bicentennial Volunteers Inc. He was a member of the Bradley County Old Timers Sports Hall of Fame. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in World War II. He attended Grace Church of the Nazarene.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Webb; four brothers; and six sisters.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Mary Pauline Smith Webb of Chattanooga; one son and daughter-in-law, William E. "Ed" and Freda Webb of Chattanooga; one daughter and son-in-law, Sophia JoAnn and Duane Shelton of Decatur, Ala.; two sisters: Betty Edgemon and Margaret Pauline Clark, both of Cleveland; four grandchildren, Kevin Webb and Heather Webb, both of Chattanooga, and Bradley Shelton and Angela Shelton, both of Decatur; a special friend, Alex Baker of Chattanooga; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (February 27, 2001) at Grissom Funeral Home with the Revs. Jerry Hansen and Brian Nave officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 556, Charleston, TN 37310.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
