The great Southern branch of Webb's descend from William Micajah Webb.578 Some disagreement as to if he was born in 1582579,90 or 1583.561,580,581 One researcher also has January 9, 1582 as his birthday557 while yet another has it as January 7, 1587 or 1588 and April 23, 1583.569 Was called "The Merchant of Virginia."556
William Micajah WEBB came to America in 1629 and was a merchant in Norfolk, Virginia. He originally settled at the Isle of Pines and then died at Norfolk, Virginia. From him, styled "The Merchant of Virginia", came the great southern branch of the Webb family. One of his sons, James moved to Richmond, Virginia and Lucy Webb was of this branch. His place of residence for a while was Smithfield, Isle of Wight, Virginia. He was a renowned shipbuilder and designer.560
