The account of this branch of the Webb family was written by Mr. Hansford, a connection of the family, in 1888. "Mark Howard, the ancestor of this family, was born in North Carolina, where he married miss Rachel Webb, oldest child of William Webb and Frances Young. While yet young he left North Carolina to seek a new home in Kentucky, taking with him his faithful servent "Squire", who was a pure African (both his father and mother having been kidnapped in Africa, and brought to North Carolina). They walked the entire way to Kentucky and after selecting land for a home, walked back to North Carolina".
"At the time he emigrated to Kentucky, He had six children. After they moved to Kentucky, eight more were born, making a total of fourteen children. They settled on Green River, in what was then Ohio County, but later became Daviess County".
"He was a staunch baptist, and joined the Beaver Dam Church. All his children lived to adult age and were married, and with a single exception lived within a five or six mile radius of Greenbriar Church, which Mr. Howard joined in 1820. All of them are now dead except Mrs. Hannah Johnson, who is 94 or 95 years old and Samuel and John Howard who live at Sivia, McLean County".
