Notes for Colonel Samuel Smith
Col. Samuel Smith served in the French and Indian wars, winning fame at the battle on the Plains of Abraham under Gen. Wolfe. Returning home with the rank of Colonel, he received from the British Crown, through Lord Granville, a war patent for 3,000 acres in Granville County. He built a home there called "Abram's Plains" which was still owned by his descendants in 1940. He was a justice of the county court in 1774. On April 22, 1776 he was chosen First Major of Militia of Granville Co., and was later promoted to Colonel. He also served several terms as a state senator.592

All sources of data are documented on the “Person Sheet” for each individual. My early data often came from less-than-reliable sources (e.g., “Sarah’s genealogy pages”). If the only sources for a person is something like that or worse there is no listed source for data, please take the information as only a suggestion and not a fact.
