Notes for Emma Matilda Bergquist
Just months before his death, an 1895 census was taken that listed Carl (33), Emma (17) and Axel H. (38) living in the same house.2043 Apparently she married very young and was almost immediately widowed. I have her wedding listed as occurring in 1883 which would have made Emma only 5 years old when married. I kind of doubt that! Maybe she married in 1893 when she was 15. The moving date (from Chariton, IA to Rawlins County, KS) of 1887 also doesn’t fit with the marriage in Rawlins County, KS in 1883.2041 A Bergquist family is living very close to the Hoagland family in Laing in the 1895 census.1062
