According to her grand-daughter Minnie Fae Harris, Matilda would have terrible headaches and as a way of reliving the pain grandpa would bleed her. This was a remedy for high blood pressure. She said she thought that grandpa sometimes worked as a veterinary doctor. Sometime during the 1880 she was committed to the State of Texas institute in Austin. According to their records she did not die until 1906. No place of burial has been found for her or for her husband James Mulder.
