Notes for William Smith Webb Sr.
There is disagreement about who his father was. Some think it was Samuel Webb (1735 - ) and Rebecca Martin while others think it was William Smith Webb and Ann Hillard. 125 Some sources lists him as the son of Samuel Boone Webb (May 23, 1740 - 1817) and Rebecca Paine with Samuel Boone Webb’s father being John Horrod Webb (1694) from England.126,127 It is believed most likely (but unproven as far as I know) that his father was Samuel Webb (ID 61 in my genealogy).

In the name of God! I, William Smith Webb considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, that is to say: first I want my body buried in a Christian like manner, then I want all my just debts paid, then in the first place I give and bequeath unto my youngest son William Smith Webb two hundred and sixty acres of land, where he now lives, being the place where John Armfield formerly lived, sold by a Decree of the Circuit Court of Sumner County, to make him equal with my older sons. I also give and bequeath unto my sons and daughters, Elizabeth Griffeth, Samuel Webb, Ann Burnett, Armstead Webb, Joseph Webb, Nancy Latimer, and William Smith Webb, the balance of all my land and two negroes, Milly and Thornton, my household and kitchen furniture of every kind, my farming utensils, and stock of every kind, and everything appertaining or in any wise belonging to me, to be sold, and equally divided between my above named, sons and daughters. I hereby appoint my two sons Samuel Webb and Armstead Webb sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal, this 29th day of February 1836. Smith Webb (Seal)
Signed sealed published and declared by the above named William Smith Webb to be his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto, subscribed our names as witnesses in the presence of the Testator:

The last Will and Testament of Smith Webb dec'd was exhibited in open Court for probate and duly proved agreeable to law by the oaths of Robert Simmons and Moses M. Donelson subscribing witnesses thereto, which is ordered to be recorded and thereupon Samuel Webb and Armstead Webb the Executors named in said will

and with Moses M. Donelson and Thomas Latimer their securities entered into and acknowledged their bond to the Governor in the penalty of Six Thousand dollars conditioned as the Law directs and took the oath of Executors prescribed by Law.

A Smith Webb is listed in Captain Smith’s Company in 1826.129 This is the only one that fits even though he would have been 51 at the time.
The 1788 and 1799 Personal Tax lists from Franklin County, VA130 list and Smith Webb.
