Enlisted in the 54th Virginia Infantry, Company B (Captain Jackson Godbey’s Unit),a Confederate unit out of Floyd County, on September 16, 1861. This unit suffered a high level of desertions, of which James Madison Webb was one, leaving on September 6, 1863, at Charleston, TN.8009
