Notes for Elbert Max Webb
He worked at Exchequer Dam in Merced County (Lake McClure) around 1946.

He was a policeman in Turlock, CA for about three months. He had a heart attack while on duty and died.11 California Death index gives dates for birth and death as well as social security number. The California Death Index also lists his name as Max Elbert rather than Elbert Max as shown on his tomb stone. Finally, the California Death Index lists his mother’s maiden name as DeWeese rather than DeWees (that old spelling issue).9

Here are some comments Lynn Webb had regarding Max Webb and his family:

“First, the Cunningham family in Merced thought they were several steps better than the rest of the folks! As I recall my Aunt Carrie didn't want much to do with Dad after Uncle Max died. Don't know all the details, but we never visited after that. At one time Uncle Max had been a bus driver in Santa Maria, CA., then moved up to Exchequer Dam and worked in the power house there. Remember visiting there and going through the dam. Then they moved to Livingston where he was working as a city cop at his death. He died while on duty one night in 1950, I believe. I remember his funeral in Merced. The intersections were all blocked by city cops, and they all saluted as the hearse went by. Bert stayed at our house one summer for about 2 months. He would have been about 12 or 13 at the time. He was a "VERY" typical city kid. Did not know a thing about country living. Hope we left the right impressions with him. Saw Bert again at your Granddad's funeral in '71. He had his wife with him. Had a good visit. I never saw or had contact with him again. He was about 10 or 11 months older than me. Think his birthday was in Jan. or Feb. of 1935. Carol was 2 or 3 years younger than me as I remember. So the 1937 birthdate would be very close. I don't have any idea what Aunt Carrie's name would have been if and when she remarried.”

All sources of data are documented on the “Person Sheet” for each individual. My early data often came from less-than-reliable sources (e.g., “Sarah’s genealogy pages”). If the only sources for a person is something like that or worse there is no listed source for data, please take the information as only a suggestion and not a fact.
