A number of pieces of evidence lead me to believe that Carrie was born Carrie Ola Cunningham and died Carrie Ola Johnson. For starters, California Death Records show a Carrie Ola Johnson born October 11, 1916 in California and died December 17, 1980 in Kern County, CA. Her mother’s maiden name was Taber and her SSN was 545-34-3075. Her last residence was in Bakersfield, Kern County, CA.8,9 There is also a record for Carol J. Stewart that died in Bakersfield whose birth record says her mother’s maiden name was Cunningham while the death record says her mother’s maiden name was Taber. Both records agree that her father’s last name was Webb. Since Carrie Ola Johnson’s death record says HER mother’s name was Taber, I believe someone mis-wrote the information on the death record using her grandmother’s maiden name. Finally, Bert’s obituary says he was the son of Harold J. Johnson which suggests that Carrie’s last name was Johnson after she remarried, in agreement with all of the information above. The convergence of information for these three leads me to believe they are all the right family.
