Notes for Leon John “Jack” Beers
He and accomplace Robert Lansing McColley were awaiting trial for the murder of Charles Sontag when he married Bessie Mae Whittington. Sontag’s death resulted from a scuffle the three had on March 10, 1942. McColley was found not guilty on December 22 but the jury could not reach a verdict on Beers. A retrial for Beers was scheduled for March, 1943 but I can find no record of the retrial in a newspaper search.
