The first double military wedding to be performed in the 35th division since its arrival at Camp Robinson, will be held Easter Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock when Corporals Eldon Sellmeyer and Arthur Whittington, both of Lincoln, marry hometown girls. Miss Bess Marie Parmeter will be the bride of Mr. Sellmeyer and Miss Frieda Kraft will be married to Mr. Whittington. The soldiers are in headquarters detachment, third battalion, 134th infantry of Nebraska. Mr. Sellmeyer is clerk of the detachment. Maj. Yandell S. Beans, division chaplain, will officiate at the wedding. An eight-man guard of honor, armed with pistols will escort the couples from the chapel ceremony. The detachment will attend the service in a body.

The first double military wedding to be performed in the 35th Division since its arrival here following mobilization will be held Easter Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock when Corporals Eldon Sellmeyer and Arthur Whittington, both of Lincoln, Nebraska, marry hometown girls.
Miss Bess Marie Parmeter will be the bride of Selmeyer and Miss Frieda Kraft will be married to Whittington. Both girls are from Lincoln. They will share an apartment in Little Rock while their husbands are stationed here.
The soldiers are in Headquarters Detachment, Third Battalion, 134th Infantry of Nebraska. Sellmeyer is clerk of the detachment.
Maj. Yandell S. Beans, Division Chaplain, will officiate at the wedding. Sergeant Alex Kraft, brother of Miss Kraft, and Sergeant Johnn Dier, top sergeant of Headquarters Detachment, will serve as best men. Kraft is in Company H 110th Medical Regiment of Nebraska. Lt. Robert E. Barns, Lincoln, Commanding Officer, will give miss Parmenter in Marriage.
An eight-man guard of honor, armed with pistols, will escort the couples from the 134th Chapel following the ceremony. The detachment will attend the service in a body.

Arthur William Whittington , 93, of
Lincoln, died Monday, November 15, 2010 at Milder Manor. Arthur was born in Lincoln on September 27, 1917 to Fred and Nora (Griffing) Whittington . He served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II at Camp J.T. Robinson in Little Rock, Ark, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He married Frieda L. Kraft on April 13, 1941 in the Chapel at Ft. Robinson in Little Rock. They were married over 69 years. After retiring from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1981, he and Frieda owned and operated Whitt’s Antiques in Lincoln. Member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survived by: Wife Frieda of Lincoln, Daughter Jenny Corman of Lincoln, Granddaughter Amy Watson of Lincoln, Great granddaughter Ashley Vaughan of Montana, Great granddaughter Jaime Woodall of Montana, Great granddaughter Heather Woodall of Montana, Great grandson Nathan Watson of Lincoln, Great-great grandson Warren Vaughan of Montana, Adopted Sister Bess Whittington of Lincoln, Brother-inlaw and Sister-in-law Earl and Arlene Kraft of Lincoln. Preceded in death by parents.

Through her attorney, Richard Johnson, she alleged irregularities in the proceedings and an abuse of discretion by the court prevented her from having a fair trial. The request added that the decision was not sustained by sufficient evidence and was contrary to law.

Obituary-Leo R. Griffing
Former Onaga resident, Leo R. Griffing, 76, died January 24, 1992, at Yuma Regional Medical Center, Arizona.
Memorial services were conducted by his children and friends at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 1992, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Yuma.
A native of Morrowville, Kansas, he was born June 30, 1915. He received his undergraduate and advanced degrees from Kansas State University. He was a teacher and an educational administrator for 45 years,, from 1933 to 1978, and lived and taught in Washington County, Randolph, Frankfort, Westmoreland, Cleburne, Circleville, Onaga, and Fowler, Kansas. Between 1966 and 1980 he was an education consultant with the State Department of Education in Topeka. He was also active in sports in Northeast Kansas as a coach and referee.
He was a member of Lodge #20 AF&AM in Circleville and earned his 32nd Degree from the Topeka Consistory Scottish Rite in 1949. He also was a member of Circleville Chapter #293 Order of Eastern Star, National Education Association, Association of Secondary Principals, Phil Delta Kappa Educational Fraternity and the Highland Park United Methodist Church in Topeka.
He was married to Ethel Evelyn Avery on December 27, 194l. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Darryl Griffing, Yuma, Ariz., A.C. Griffing, San Francisco, Calif.; and Brad Griffing, Wakefield, R.I.; two daughters, Gwen Eidman, Emporia, Ks.; ad Lois Griffing of Chicago, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.

Elizabeth "Bess" Mae Weston, 97, died on May 23, 2021 in Springville, Utah. She was born on May 14, 1924 in Maple Hills Kansas to Fred L Whittington and Nora B Griffing Whittington.
Elizabeth worked as Head Secretary at BYU for many years.
She has a large and loving family, who were a blessing to her all her life.
There will be a family prayer for immediate family only at the Spring Creek Mortuary located at 737 N. Main Street, Springville, at 1:00, then a graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery at 2:00.
After the graveside service, there will be a dinner for family and close friends at the Springville LDS Chapel, 200 N 860 E from 4:00-5:30 pm

L. J. "Jack" Beers, 87, of Lincoln, died July 12, 2010. Mr. Beers was born March 28, 1923 to Leon and Eva (McCourtney) Beers in Lincoln. Jack was a Master Architect/Engineer which was his life's work and pride. He designed over 300 churches in a five state area and was a founding member of the Society of American Registered Architects. He served in the United States Marines during World War II as a qualified radio-radar gunner. He participated in the Treasury-Bougainville Operation, the Bismarck Archipelago Operation and the consolidation of the Northern Solomon Islands. Jack was a highly decorated Marine and received three purple hearts. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Sesostris Shrine. He was an avid Husker football fan and also a member of the 1941 Lincoln High State Championship Football Team. He was preceded by his parents, Mom and Pop Beers; a brother, Ted Beers; a sister, Lucille Beers Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothe, of Lincoln; son, John Beers , of Dorchester,; daughters, Lynne Seus (Doug), of Heber City, Utah, and Patty Jo Flower of Salt Lake City; step-children, George Culver, of Austin, Texas, and Steven Olsen (Kate), of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren; several greatgrandchildren and three nieces.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home, 4040 A. St., Lincoln, NE 68510. Visitation will be 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Friday, July 16, 2010, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Masonic Lodge #300 or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
