9357. “Obituaries,” Ethel Louise Pease.
Mrs. Ethel L. Pease, 86, of St. Maries, ID peacefully passed away April 14, 2012 with her family at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earle, of 49 years. Ethel was born February 11, 1926 in Colbert, WA. She graduated from Mead High School in 1944. She married Earle B. Pease on September 14, 1944, and then moved to the Benewah Valley. The family moved to St. Maries in 1967. Ethel worked for the Benewah County School district as a Teacher's Aide and School Librarian, from which she retired in 1999. As a young bride, she and her husband worked in the woods making cedar poles. They started their family having four daughters Erline, Elaine, Evey and Erin. During that time Ethel was an active 4-H leader and member of the Eagles Auxiliary She was a community friend, often driving numerous children 45 miles round trip for swimming lessons. Every Fall, she would harvest Christmas Trees to help provide a Christmas for "her girls". When the family moved to St. Maries, she started working as a Teacher's Aide at the Heyburn Elementary School in 1968, she then worked at the Middle School as the Librarian where she stayed until her retirement in 1999. Ethel was a "Mom" to numerous students during the years. She always had a warm hug, loving smile and kind words for the children. Ethel's passion was to garden berries, vegetables, and most of all flowers; she always looked forward to spring to start her planting. She spent her summers in her garden, yard or fishing at the lake. In her 60's, she started painting with oils and became an accomplished artist. Her work reflected the talent of someone who had been painting their entire life. Holidays were her favorite reason to decorate the house, cook and bake for the entire family and friends. Ethel was an avid reader, and she loved to bowl. She collected hundreds of books over the years. Upon moving in the Valley Vista Assisted Living, she donated her books and started a Library which is up and running to this day. She is survived by her four daughters, Erline Doupe' of DeSmet, ID, Elaine Lewis of St. Augustine, FL, Evey Carlino of Hayden Lake, ID, and Erin Poger of Palm City, FL. She was the Grandmother of Stacy Merriman, Brian Merriman, Kenneth Doupe,'Juile Schwanz, Joel Doupe', Vicci Arnold, Valerie Taylor, Sarah Dahlin, Victor Carlino, Jr. Sam Carlino and Nick Carlino, and Great Grandmother to Travis Merriman, Dustin Merriman, Morgan Taylor, Eston Taylor, Christine Arnold, Terrin Loe and R.J. Schwanz. She was the Great Great Grandmother to Karson Merriman. She is also survived by her Sisters Addie Mae Harrah and Agnes Marrow, Sister-in-law Vera Licht . Nieces, Nancy Gullings and Caprice Brighton and Nephews Andy Pease, Eric Erickson, Tink Erickson, Gale Thelin and Mel Thelin. A celebration of her life will be Friday, April 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Maries Church of the Nazarene 175 Grandview Dr., with Rev. Gary Foster officiating. A Gathering of family and friends will follow services at the Church Fellowship Hall.
