Benjamin Whittington, born about 1775, in Tuckahoe district of Talbot or Caroline County, Maryland. The son of Thomas Whittington, a tobacco farmer. Benjamin married Mary Elizabeth ( last name believed to be Carroll ).

Benjamin migrated from Maryland to North Carolina to Kentucky to where he finally settled with his family in Bartholomew County, Indiana.

First record of Benjamin in Indiana was "The Directory of Bartholomew County" dated May 14, 1820. The following year "The Atlas of Bartholomew County" lists him as among the first taxpayers in 1821. Benjamin shows up in the 1830 Census of Bartholomew Co. Indiana. The last record of Benjamin in Bartholomew Co. is in the form of a Deed when he sold forty acres of land to his son, Francis Whittington, on September 16, 1837.

Benjamin does not appear in the 1850 Census, so it is believed that he died between 1837 and 1850.

There are three old graves in Mt. Olive Cemetery, in the courtyard of Mt. Olive Church with the inscription of Whittington. It is considered a strong possibility to be the graves of Benjamin, wife Mary Elizabeth and a daughter of theirs.

My source of all this information is, " The Whittington~Brown Book 1066~1965 ", written by Winona Whittington Pfander, teacher, genealogist and Great-Great Granddaughter of Benjamin Whittington.
