Robert Benda was born March 16, 1892, near Shelby, Neb., and passed away in his home near Achilles, Oct. 17, 1938, at the age of 47 years, 7 months and 1 day.
He was the sixth child of John and Anna Benda, who have preceded him in death.
At the age of 14 years, the family moved to a farm near Halford. At the age of 27 he was united in marriage to Hazel Hurst, of Oberlin.
They remained on the home place a year, then moved to a farm near Achilles where he remained until his sudden death.
Bob, as he was known by everyone who knew him, was a devoted husband and father. He was a true believer in God and lived an earnest Christian life. He was converted Oct. 20, 1917, joined the Methodist church, March 21, 1918. In September 1936 he transferred his letter into the Swedish Mission church of which he held the office of deacon at the time of his death.
He was always willing to help his neighbors in any way, and will be sorely missed not only in the family circle, but by all his neighbors and friends.
There remain to morn his departure, his devoted wife, four children: Wesley Gale, John Robert, Esther Verlene and Ida Marie; one brother, Oscar, of Halford; and seven sisters, Anna Neal, of Dolores, Colo.; Rlla Parrott, of Flagler, Colo.; Minnie Howard, of Brighton, Colo.; Theresia Kleeman, of Elbert, Colo,; Marie Anderson of Halford; Sophia McKinney and Rose Ryan of Colby; besides many other relatives and friends.

OBERLIN, Kansas -- Eulaine M. Benda, 93, died Monday (March 3, 2014), at Decatur County Good Samaritan Society in Oberlin.
She was born April 5, 1920, in rural Herndon, Kansas, to August and Olive Marie (Fellman) Erikson. She attended Linda grade school in rural Rawlins County and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1937.
She married Wesley Gale Benda on June 12, 1944, in Herndon.
She was a teacher and homemaker.
She was a member of Herndon Covenant Church, Herndon Covenant Women, Gideons Auxiliary, Hello There Hobby Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents: August and Olive Marie Erikson; husband, Wesley G. Benda, brothers, Kermit and Cordette Erikson; sisters, Fern Wenger and Eula Waldo; son-in-law, Mitch Messerly and infant grandson, Nicolas Maresch.
Survivors include children, Gerald Benda and wife, Patti of Ludell, Kansas, Connie Smith and husband, Bob, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Leanne Pike and husband, Losson of Ashland, Kansas, Shirley Maresch and husband, Daryl of Nekoma, Kansas, Beverly Messerly of Sublette, Kansas and Barbara Olson and husband, Mark of Hoxie, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Esther Noren of Oberlin and Ida Marie Erickson and husband, David of Green Valley, Arizona; 14 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.
Services are Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Herndon Covenant Church at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Keith Reuther officiating. Interment is at the Herndon Covenant Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Saturday, from 8 a.m. until service time, at Herndon Covenant Church.
Memorials may be given to Herndon Covenant Church and Decatur County Good Samariatan Society.
Pauls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HUMBOLDT, Tenn. Miss Linda Ann Zarecor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burney Cawthorne Zarecor, became the bride Aug. 24 of David Leon Drone of Shawneetown, Ill., son of Mr. and Mrs. John Drone of Shawneetown.
The ceremony took place at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William James as officiant. A program of nuptial music was presented by Mrs. Ewing B. Jackson, organist, and Miss Diane Miller of Elkton, Ky., vocalist.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of silk faced peau de soie designed with an empire waistline and Alencon lace trim on the midriff. Her veil of English illusion fell from a crown of pearls and she carried a bouquet of Phaleonopsis orchids and tuberoses.
Miss Martha Zarecor was her sister's maid of honor and Miss Carole Zarecor, another sister, was a bridesmaid. Bill Carter served as best man. Ushers were Joe Overby of Murray, Ky. and Ralph Hirshbrunner of Columbia, Tenn.
Immediately after the ceremony, the bride’s parents entertained at a reception in the church parlors.
Later Mr. and Mrs. Drone left for a wedding trip. Upon their return they will reside in Shawneetown where they are members of the school faculty.

Preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters; grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Robertson and James Eric Morris.
Survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Naomi Biggs; daughters, Jane Muralles (Ramiro), Rhonda Harwood (Bob), JoAnn Pinkley (Doug) and Christy Williams (Joe); 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, J. D. Biggs; sister, Peggy Sawyer (Massey).
Visitation Tuesday, September 16, from 3-8 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, White House.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 2 p.m. Interment, Hillcrest Cemetery.
