Wanona (Henson) Pinkard, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, in Brownwood, Texas.

She was born on October 3, 1918, in Seneca, Missouri, to Elmer Oscar and Grace (Kelley) Henson. On February 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Reginald Clyde Pinkard in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1990. Wanona earned a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s degree in Botany from Oklahoma A. & M. In 1950 she was hired by Sidney I.S.D. She taught science and history and was the Principal. After retiring from Sidney I.S.D. in 1979, she taught for a year in Rising Star I.S.D. and then substituted for Sidney I.S.D. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her kindness was felt by all with whom she came into contact. Wanona was a member of First Christian Church in Brownwood.

She is survived by one son, Ronald Pinkard and wife Deborah of Sidney; seven grandchildren: Kelley Cook, Danise Branning, David Pinkard, Michelle Pinkard, Melanie Glass, Melissa McDaniel, and Shawn Pinkard; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Steven Basil Pinkard on May 5, 2001, and Larry Lee Pinkard on December 2, 2012; one sister; and five brothers.

STAG CREEK (BBC) — Miss Linda Janes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Janes of Sidney, and Steven Pinkard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reginald C. Pinkard, 1705 10th St., Brownwood, exchanged marriage vows Friday, June 18, at 7:30 p.m.

Steward Caffey officiated for the double ring ceremony in South Copperas Baptist Church.
Yellow flowers and ribbon marked family pews.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a streetdress of white cotton fashioned with a full skirt. The sleeveless bodice featured a square neckline and a lace panel down the front. Her accessories were white. She carried a white Bible topped with an arrangement of white carnations centered with a yellow orchid. She also carried a handerchief about 50 years old that belonged to her grandmother, Mrs. John Hammond of Comanche. The bride’s mother carried the Bible and handkerchief in her wedding.

HONOR ATTENDANTS

Mary Lewis, bridesmaid, wore a yellow dress of cotton designed with square neckline and full skirt. Her accessories were white. Larry Pinkard of Brownwood served his brother as best man. Rondald Pinkard, brother of the bridgeroom, and Richard Janes, brother of the bride, ushered.

Cathy Fanning of Comanche played traditional wedding music and accompanied Mary Childs as she sang “More.”

For her dauther’s wedding, Mrs. Janes chose a two-piece dress of pink linen with black accessories. Bridegroom’s mother was attired in a pink crepe dress with pink hat and black patent accessories. Their corsages were of carnations.

Immediately following the wedding, a reception was held in the home of the bride’s aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Drennan. Bride’s table, laid with lace over yellow, was centered with an arrangement of yellow gladioli and greenery flanked by yellow candles.

HOUSE PARTY

Carolyn Holland of Fort Worth presided at the punch service. Jerri Billings of Midland served the tiered wedding care. The white cake, decorated with yellow rose buds, was made by Mrs. Drennan.

Others assiting in serving included Mmes. Lucile Janes of Gainesville, Fred Mabe, Drennan. Robert Roe, J. A. Cos, and LoydCoker. Jean Rachels and others. Nuts and mints were also served.

Thelma Herring of Morgan Hill presided at the bride’s book. Music during the reception was prvided by Mary Childs and Cathy Fanning.

For a wedding trip to San Marcos, the bride wore a beige sheath dress of linen with white accessories and the orchid from her bridal bouquet.

The bride, a 1965 honor graduate of Sidney High School, where she was a member of the Honor Society, is presently attending Trleton State College. Bridegroom, a 1964 honor graduate of Sidney High School, was also a member of the Honor Society. He attended TSC last year and is presently engaged in farming.

After the bride completes a summer course at TSC, the couple will reside in Brownwood where they plan to attend Howard Payne College this fall.

Guests attending the wedding included those from Gainesville, Brownwood, Sidney, and Comanche.
