Malcom L. Cavallin was born May 4,1851 in Skeda Parish, Sweden and died January 1933 in Olivia, Calhoun Co.,TX.  He married Christina Beata Larson April 27, 1876 in Lucas, Iowa.

Christina was born in 1852 in Hjo, Vastergotland, Sweden and died in 1897 in Olivia, Calhoun Co.,TX.

From Iowa, the Cavallins went to Kansas. When they left Kansas, they left one child buried there (Malcom Magnus Jan 1889-March 1889).  The Cavallin family came to Calhoun County in late 1800s.

Their children:  Ellen Catherina (the oldest) 1877-1948, Gustaf Adolph 1879-1942, Carl John 1881-1934, Oscar Fredrick 1882-1948, Mabel Magnolia 1884-1958, Guy Lincoln 1890-1955, and Malcom Owen 1892-1977.  Ellen, Mable, and Guy were the only ones to continuously live in Olivia. John and Malcolm settled in Matagorda Co., TX.

The family spent their first winter in covered wagons on their newly acquired property in Olivia.

Mrs. Cavallin died in 1897 from an apparent heart attack.  She is buried in the Olivia Cemetery.  Ellen remained at home til her marriage in 1902.  After Guy returned from WW 1, he was named county commissioner, which he held for twenty-eight years.   Gust remained single and helped his father on the farm.

Mr. Cavallin helped organize the School District No. 1 and serve as trustee for twenty-four years. He was also instrumental in organizing the Farmer?s Gin in Olivia and building the first gin in 1894.  Mr. Cavallin was also County Commissioner for twenty-two years.   Mr. Cavallin never owned a car. He drove a horse drawn buggy up until his death in 1933. He too is buried in Olivia Cemetery.

This information comes from The Shifting Sands of Calhoun Co. 1981 by the Calhoun Co. Historical Commission and Jackie Maskew Cavallin.  Her husband is a descendent of Malcolm and Christina Cavallin.
