U.S. Air Force Master Seargent Jerry L. Ayres, brother of Bobby C. Harden, who resides on Batts Boulevard, Springfield, Tenn., has received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service while engaged in military operations against Viet Cong forces.

Sergeant Ayres distinguished himself as chief of the operations section of the data automation branch of the 12th Combat Support Group at Cam Ranh Bay AB, Vietnam.

His outstanding ability contributed to the implementation of many new complex data systems in support of combat operations.

The sergeant was honored at Ent AFB, Colo., where he serves as a data processing supervisor with a unit of the Aerospace Defense Command.

Sergeant Ayres is a 1958 graduate of Springfield High School. His wife, Judy, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Davis, Rt. 1, Chapmansboro, Tenn.

Carter William Hicks, 15, of Knoxville, died Feb. 11.

He was a member of First Baptist Concord. He was a student of Christian Academy of Knoxville and member of the Warrior Shooting Team.

Carter, 'the timekeeper,' loved to travel and appreciated a proper cup of tea. He also enjoyed reading, films, history and the symphony.

He was survived by his parents, Billy and Emily Hicks; brother, Cooper Webb Hicks; grandparents, the Rev. P. David and Dianna Hicks, of Jacksboro; Emmett and Wilma Chastain, of Knoxville, formerly of Cleveland; uncle and aunt, Drs. Joseph and Kimberly Hicks, of Knoxville, Tyler and Heather Chastain, of Knoxville, Jason and Holli Chastain, of Silva, N.C.; cousins, Griffin and Braden Hicks, Daniel, Haleigh, Holly and Hudson Chastain; cousins, Grace and Colin Chastain and many extended family members.

Funeral services were Feb. 15 at First Baptist Concord with the Rev. P. David Hicks officiating.

Interment was private.

Craig Alan Rutter, 60, of Oak Grove, MO passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center.  The son of Larry Rutter and Charlene Grove, he was born February 21, 1956 in Kansas City, MO.

Craig was married to the love of his life Kimberly Cannady on June 16, 1984 in Independence, MO.  He worked as a maintenance mechanic for several businesses throughout the Kansas City area.  Craig enjoyed boating, water skiing, attending car shows, his 1977 Cobra II Mustang, and 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle.  His greatest enjoyment came from being around his family and friends; especially his 2 granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years Kimberly Rutter of Oak Grove, MO; daughter, Koree Morgan and husband Jesse of Blue Springs, MO; son, Chad Rutter of Blue Springs, MO; granddaughters, Kloee and Macee of Blue Springs, MO; father, Larry Rutter and step-mother Nancy of Chillicothe, MO; sisters, Monica Kroupa and husband Joe of Fontana, WI, Tobi McDonald and husband Jeff of Phoenix, AZ, Dusti Wendt and husband Josh of Phoenix, AZ; Julie Atkins and husband David of Lee’s Summit, MO, Jackie Edmisson of Chillicothe, MO; brother, Shannon Grove of Oxford, Florida; He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlene Grove; step-father, Bill Grove; brother, Gary Rutter; sister, Cheryl Rutter.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs, MO.  Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2016 at the chapel.  Inurnment will immediately follow the service at the Blue Springs Cemetery.  On Saturday, August 20th, there will be a Celebration of Craig’s life at Lake Tapawingo Club House. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Relay For Life of Eastern Jackson County.  Memories of Craig and condolences to the family may be shared at

James Elder Palmquist, the son of Elder and Ruth (Johnson) Palmquist was born October 12, 1929, north of Stanton, Iowa in Montgomery County. He passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Society, Villisca, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 1 day.
 
Jim was raised in the Stanton area. He attended Pittsburgh Country School and later Red Oak High School. On March 2, 1952, Jim was united in marriage to June E. Jones at Wales, Iowa. To this union, they were blessed with three children, Janet, Jolene and Jerald, their pride and joy. The family made their home on a farm south of Stanton, Iowa where Jim farmed. He also served 8 years in the Iowa Army National Guard during Korea. Jim was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton, where he helped with youth groups and serving on the board and as an elder. In the fall of 1992, Jim and June moved to Red Oak. After making Red Oak their home, they became members of Faith Community Church. Jim was an active member having served on the board, was an assistant treasurer, helped with Awana's, and used his carpentry and “fix-it” skills to make many repairs. He was a willing and faithful servant of the Lord. Jim loved his family, the farm and working the land, as he continued farming south of Stanton until the past few weeks. His hobbies included working in his shop repairing equipment and woodworking.
 
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June on January 11, 2007 and brother, Donald Palmquist.
 
Jim is survived by his two daughters: Janet Kahnk of Omaha, NE and Jolene Goodsell and husband Doug of Omaha, NE; and son, Jerald Palmquist and wife Chrissi of Stanton, IA; 9 grandchildren: Jessica (Andrew) Beauregard, Andrea (Paul) Rahn, Brandon Kahnk, Zachary (Christine) Goodsell, Ellie and Amanda Goodsell, Christopher, Austin and Ashley Palmquist; 2 great-grandchildren: Madeline and Amelia Rahn; brother, John (Charlotte) Palmquist of Stanton, IA; and sister-in-law, Jean Palmquist of Red Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
 
May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn.
